Svenja John

Germany, b. 1963

Since 1994, Svenja John has created jewellery by utilising the unique qualities of macrofol, a polycarbonate processed to create foil. By hand cutting, colouring and piecing together individual components, she creates intricate clustered forms that express the same processes of calculation and chance we find in the natural world.  John initially studied archaeology at the Ruhr University Bochum, going on to study at Goldsmiths school in Hanau graduating in 1989. Her work is kept in public collections such as Kunstgewerbemuseum, Berlin, NGV, and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, New York.
