VERONIKA FABIAN | LINKING TALE

Linking Tale brings us a series of works from one of the world's most noted emerging jewellery artists, Veronika Fabian. Featuring important works from her series Once Upon A Time, this exhibition explores notions of the handmade in an era of mass production, and the place of individual identity in late capitalism and current socio-cultural trends.

The series consists of large metal chains created from smaller ones by soldering the individual chains together into ‘chain sheets’ that are flattened in the rolling mill and then formed further in a specific sequence of steps; by pressing and hammering them into matching half chain link shapes which are finally soldered together. The intensively hand-crafted 'big links' repeat the form of the industrial chains, creating a tension between the mass-produced and the handcrafted. Veronika’s work simultaneously celebrates and questions the supremacy of uniqueness over the output of production lines, commenting on our dilemmas of the 21st century.
