Margaret West: Moments from small journeys
MOMENTS FROM SMALL JOURNEYS
Margaret West
A presentation of important works and archival material, by renowned maker Margaret West (1936 - 2014). Margaret West was a jeweller, poet, writer and teacher who had an enormous impact on the field of contemporary jewellery in Australia. Born in Melbourne, Margaret spent most of her life in NSW, where she taught at Sydney University College of the Arts until 1999.
Margaret traveled and exhibited extensively and is represented in major national and international collections. Her work was broadly informed by interests which ranged through art, literature, music, philosophy, science and technology. The metaphoric potential of the everyday world and concern about political issues provided grist to her mill. Her art practice was polymorphic and idiosyncratic, moving between installation, object making, jewellery, drawing, and photography.
