Kim Buck
Denmark
Kim Buck is a goldsmith who rewrites the perceptions of what defines jewellery, questioning and dismantling its boundaries. Though Kim’s jewellery lives as a testament of technical research, his works are also contemporary in their material, expressions, and questions they raise. Kim reflects the common values associated with jewellery even as he works to rewrite and possibly rearrange them. Yet, at the same time and with equal intention, he creates jewellery that longs to be worn.
Kim trained as a goldsmith from 1979-1982 before furthering his studies at The Danish College of Jewellery and Silversmithing (now Institute of Precious Metals). He has owned his studio and gallery in the historical center of Copenhagen since 1989, and has taught at various educational institutions including as Professor at University of Gothenburg between 1999-2001. Kim has an extensive exhibition history, with solo and group exhibitions held worldwide since 1987, and he has been the recipient of numerous awards since 1982. His work is held in museum collections including The Danish Museum of Art and Design, Museum of Art and Design (MAD), New York, The National Museum of Art, Oslo, the Victria and Albert Museum, London and Die Neue Sammlung, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich.
